Dog Day Afternoon (1975)
Trailer
I'm robbing a bank because they got money here.
So basically: Sonny and his friend Sal hold up a bank. They've got it all planned out - be in and out in about half an hour - but when the vault is opened, barely any money is there. Angry and frustrated, Sonny takes too long and the cops arrive. Sonny must now keep the cops off his back, keep the hostages happy, and find a way to get him and Sal out alive.
This is one of my favourite movies of all time. I love movies that feel claustrophobic and are centred around characters more than plot. I think this movie is brilliant. It was excellently cast and every character is amazing and enhances the story somehow. Also, bank robbing movies are awesome, especially when they don't make it too serious, like this film, which blended in humour nicely. The telephone scene between Sonny and Leon was defs the best in the film and one of the all time great scenes of cinema.
If anything, this film should be way higher on the list.
Ziggi seal of approval!
