Stalag 17 (1953)
Trailer
We sort of hope you'd laugh yourselves to death.
So basically: The boys in Barrack 4, Stalag 17 are on edge when they suspect there's a stoolie in their midst feeding information to the Nazis. Their suspicion turns to Sgt Sefton as he's been dealing goods with the Nazis, though he's adamant he isn't the stoolie. While this is going on, Lt Dunbar is being unlawfully detained and questioned, and it's up to Barrack 4 to spring him out of the grips of the Nazis.
I think I would have been a bit angry at this film if I'd been alive when it came out and saw it then. It's making light of a very serious situation, POW camps. However, it was written by two men who had experienced the POW camps first hand, which also makes the humour seem natural. I'm not mad at this film and it's a hilarious look at a group of men stuck together during the Christmas season in a German POW camp. The duo of Sapiro and Animal are defs the most funny part without overdoing it, which would have been easy. Despite the humour and light nature of the film, its plot is engaging and suspenseful.
This should defs be higher on the list.
Ziggi seal of approval!

It might be worth pointing out that this movie is said to have inspired the TV series 'Hogan's Heroes'.
