Life of Brian (1979)
Trailer
I say you are Lord, and I should know. I've followed a few.
So basically: Brian was born in the manger right next to Jesus, causing the Wise Men to screw up and name him the Messiah. Now as an adult, Brian joins the Peoples' Front of Judea to help get rid of the Romans. There, he falls in love with Judith, one of the members. His life is further complicated by his false Messiah-hood as the Jewish people start following in swarms.
Comedy has lost something over the years. I don't think I can recall a satirical film I've seen in theatres ... which is very sad as it's one of the best forms of comedy and Monty Python does not disappoint with its satire on cults and religion. Defs one of the funniest movies of all time and, of course, the Pythons are among the funniest cast evs as they play a myriad number of parts each - and splendidly done. This movie probably offended - not probably, I know it did - a lot of people when it first came out, but honestly, it's just a bit of humour - and I don't think they were making fun of the religion, just the way people blindly follow without question.
If anything, this movie should be way higher on the list.
Ziggi seal of approval!

I don't know what happened with the genre of comedy. There are so many dumb comedies out there. The Pythons are the best!
ReplyDeleteIt makes me sad :( I mean, there are a few good ones out now, but the majority kind of sucks.
ReplyDeleteYey :D I can't wait to see Meaning of Life.
