The Third Man (1949)
Trailer
You were born to be murdered.
So basically: Out of work pulp fiction writer Holly Martins arrives in Vienna with promise of work from his friend, Harry Lime. When he gets to Harry's apartment, he is found dead. The police get involved, but Holly isn't satisfied with their results as too many stories contradict each other. With the help of Harry's Czech girlfriend, Holly scours the streets of Vienna looking for the truth.
Mystery/Crime movies are defs not my favourites and I really don't think it's a good genre for film anyway (books are really the right medium), but The Third Man is pretty good. It doesn't get bogged down with insignificant details or too many characters and names (srs, how can anyone keep up with so many names in other movies?). I think that's what makes this movie good. The story is interesting enough and the characters don't just fit into roles determined by the story.
This movie deserves to be on the list, but I don't think it should be this high.
Ziggi seal of approval!
