Ran (1985)
Trailer
In a mad world, only the mad are sane.
So basically: An aging Lord Hidetora Ichimonji steps down from his title and leaves his kingdom in the hands of his three sons, wishing only to be a guest in their homes. The youngest of the sons warns him of the dangers of his plan and that it is folly to expect them all to work together. Angry, Lord Hidetora Ichimonji banishes this son. As predicted, the eldest son turns against his father and takes control over the kingdom.
I think the reason I don't like this movie at is due to the use of longshots. It alienates the audience and creates a terrible atmosphere for watching a movie. The interaction of the characters was interesting, but my attention kept going in and out - I blame the cinematography, mostly. My favourite character is Kyoami, the fool, who was the only character which kept my full arousal ... attention, I mean.
The story is good, but it's not a very good movie and doesn't deserve to be on the list.
Ziggi seal of disapproval!
