Le Notti di Cabiria (1957)

Trailer

Dead bodies don't throw up water.
So basically: Cabiria is a waifish prostitute wondering the streets looking for love. She continuously gets taken advantage of from the men in her life and wants to change her ways. A group of other prostitutes and she go on a trip to see the Madonna. There, she asks Maria to give her grace. Cabiria thinks it has worked when she meets a young man who wants to marry her. But, is he any different from the other men she has encountered in her life?

Olives Guilietta Masina! She was much better in this movie than in La Strada. At least, her character was, not falling over abusive men and doing whatever she's told. She's a much stronger woman, especially at the end. The ending to this movie is brilliant. After all she's been through, after having her house sold and her money stolen, she keeps going with a smile on her face. Frederico Fellini ... I don't get what's so special about him, tho. He does make some awesome movies, but - in my opinion - he isn't anything special.

The story of Cabiria's nights and days on the streets of Rome is one that doesn't leave the audience feeling ripped off; Cabiria is a marvellous character! It defs deserves to be on the list.

Ziggi seal of approval!
