Les Diaboliques (1955)

Trailer

Don't be devils. Don't ruin the interest your friends could take in this movie. Don't tell them what you saw.
So basically: The wife and mistress of a school principal are tired of his mistreatment. Together, they plan his murder. Things seem to be going well for them: killing him was simple, transporting him back to school was just as easy, and dumping him into the school's pool to make it look like an accident went flawlessly. However, when the pool is drained, there is no trace of the body! The wife, Christina, who already has a heart condition, is confined to bed rest due to the stress of it all, but the mistress, Nicole, seems calm and collected throughout.

This is one of those movies that I think would be really really popular if it were in English. Well, it almost was, Alfred Hitchcock wanted to direct it, after all. But as it is, it's in French and a lot of people don't watch foreign films - not necessarily their fault, either. Anyway, why do I think that? Because there's a double twist! Not just one, but two! And suspense. The first hour, everything goes according to plan, but when the body goes missing, things start to get interesting. The first time I watched this I was glued to the screen, trying to figure out what happened - I couldn't, by the way. I never once suspected the mistress; she seemed to hate him as much as the wife.

Ah, brilliant movie. Michel is a big douche, tho, which makes me angry at the film. But, clever plot and interesting characters. Defs deserves to be on the list.

Ziggi seal of approval!
