Gran Torino (2008)

Trailer

Boy, does my ass hurt from all of the guys at my construction job.
So basically: Walt Kowalski's wife just died and he is now alone and bitter in an empty house. He doesn't like or talk to his kids and he hates all of his neighbours. When one of his neighbours, Thao, gets beaten up by his cousin, Walt comes to the rescue. The rest of the neighbours, all Hmong people, try and thank him for saving Thao's life by giving his gifts. Thao's sister, Sue, warms up to Walt and they become friends.

I've cooled down a little after watching this movie, but let me see if I can get my anger and annoyance across. This is why I think Clint Eastwood is stupid. The only reason people like this crappy movie is because his name is attached to it. I heard he rushed the production to get it finished in time for the Oscars and it really shows. The story is simple and predictable, the actors are terrible (some people blame the terrible direction, but that can only go so far. The Asian actors were new, they're of course not going to be that great, and they shouldn't have started out with this film), and it's so BLAND!!! omg! I can't believe people like this. It's not original, it's not shot brilliantly, it's not sad or heart-warming or inspiring at all!

This movie is a waste of time. End of story.

Ziggi seal of disapproval!

  1. I liked it. It spoke volumes as to how we treat old people and how we treat people who are different than us. I didn't even know he was in it when I started watching it (I'm like the least knowing actors person I know it's sad...) and I really did enjoy it. Going out on a limb for someone, learning to care, it's a feel good movie. Sure the plot is simple but some of the best are, I'd rather watch this than something with four hundred twists I have to watch nine times to get what the hell is going on. I went in with no expectations and came out with a good experience.

Also - How can you not go "HAH!" when that stupid little bitch of a granddaughter finds out she isn't getting the car. Ooooh that's gratifying.

    Anyways, yup. I dug it.

    BAD MOVIE BAD MOVIE!!

The messages were all there, sure, and yey, but that doesn't necessarily translate into a good film

  3. Glad we do not all have the same taste. Otherwise we would have the same job, live in the same house and drive the same car. I LOVED the movie and personally think it's brilliant. Period. :)

  4. Gtfo, this was a good movie. The story was simple, but that doesn’t make it a bad movie. The acting was not terrible and I disagree that the story was bland. I thought it was well-acted and well-directed. This was a good movie and I hate you review.
