The Wrestler (2008)

Trailer

Then that Cobain pussy had to come around and ruin it all.
So basically: Randy is a washed-up wrestler working at a grocery store while fighting on the weekends, when a heart-attack sends him to the hospital and gives him a second chance. He tries to reconnect with the daughter he never knew and to fall in love with a stripper he frequently sees. But when a big rematch fight is in the works, he must choose between his old life and his new one.

I absolutely hate Darren Aronofsky, but I was willing to give this movie a chance after so much praise. My assumptions were correct. The story is bland, the acting is alright (I still love Marisa Tomei, tho), and Randy isn't a very good character at all. He had his chance with wrestling, was very successful, and then grew older. That stuff happens. Move on already. God. How selfish can you get. And then he gets a second chance and he goes and blows it! What kind of a main character is that? I'm sorry, but no.

Why is this movie so high up? Srs. This movie does not deserve to be on the list at all.

Ziggi seal of disapproval!

  1. I totally agree with you, and I had to watch this one at the movies with my husband. He loved it, but I just couldn't wait to leave the theater. Randy is not a very likable guy.

  2. Ew, seeing it in theatres would totally suck :<
He isn't! I get some main characters that are despicable, but the story is still good, or something, and it works. But this did not work at all.

  3. So because you don't like Randy, the movie is no good? HERPA DERP.

  4. I believe I gave other reasons as well.
Also, just because I don't like a character, doesn't mean they aren't a good character. Randy, on the other hand, isn't an interesting character, no matter my opinion of him.

  5. seems like you're the only one. Rotten tomatoes seems to think it's pretty awesome as well as most of the influential film review magazines. You're outnumbered a lot to one.

  6. I've noticed.

But, I am entitled to my opinions, aren't I? Just because everyone else loves this movie, doesn't mean I have to
