Gladiator (2000)

Trailer

Are you not entertained? Are you not entertained? Is this not why you are here?
So basically: Roman General Maximus is supposed to ascend to Emperor after Marcus Aurelius dies, but his son, Commodus, has other plans. After killing his father, he sends two assassins to Maximus, and sends more to kill his wife and son. When Maximus escapes and finds his family brutally murdered, he seeks revenge on the new Emperor, but not before becoming a gladiatorial slave in Africa under the rule of Proximo.

Omg! I totally forgot that Ancient Rome had dirt, and incest, and twisted characters (I am, of course, referring to Spartacus and Ben-Hur, which I know it's not their fault that they're so clean)! This movie proves that Ancient Rome is one of the greatest times in which to set a story as there are so many possibilities of corruption, drama, and stories. Russell Crowe's Maximus was well written, well acted, and very sympathetic to the audience (I think he's one of the best heroes in cinematic history). I would have never thought Joaquin Pheonix could pull of Commodus, but his performance is absolutely stunning!

A brilliant film and totally deserves to be on the list! (I didn't even mention the length, which proves how awesome it was)

Ziggi seal of approval!

  1. I think this film was good, but I don’t think it belongs on a list of the best movies of all time. What makes it better than Spartacus, Braveheart, or Ben-Hur that you gave a thumbs down. If anything, I’d say that those films belong not this one. I’m disappointed
